New discussion of mediatization theory

The discussion of mediatization theory continues with a commentary by professor Stig Hjarvard, University of Copenhagen, together with professor Andreas Hepp, University of Bremen, and professor Knut Lundby, University of Oslo. The journal Media, Culture and Society has just published their article “Mediatization: theorizing the interplay between media, culture and society” in response to a recent critique of mediatization theory. The authors address three theoretical concerns: the role of media as causal agents, the understanding of historical change, and the design of concepts.
